There is everything here from the lyrics to the deep vocals and brilliant melodies that make this album every bit worth having.
I hear so many influences from Numan, Fields of the Nephilm, Red Lorry Yellow Lorry and The Damned.
This is a fantastic album.

The Cassandra Complex was founded in the mid-80s in Leeds, England by Rodney Orpheus, Andy Booth, and Paul Dillon. Their first independently released records became successful in Europe, topping the indie charts in various countries, leading the band to eventually sign to PIAS Records and relocate to Hamburg, Germany where they added current members Volker Zacharias and Axel Ermes.
After several years of doing other things, The Cassandra Complex reformed to play some well-received European festival shows, and began working on what would become their new album The Plague, recorded and mixed during the Covid -19 lockdown. The album will be released on May 6, 2022 on their own label, Complex Music.
The Cassandra Complex have been booked to play several festival dates in summer 2022.
Der Cassandra Complex wurde Mitte der 80er Jahre in Leeds, England, von Rodney Orpheus, Andy Booth und Paul Dillon gegründet. Ihre ersten unabhängig veröffentlichten Platten wurden in Europa erfolgreich und führten die Indie-Charts in verschiedenen Ländern an, was die Band dazu brachte, schließlich bei PIAS Records zu unterschreiben und nach Hamburg, Deutschland, zu ziehen, wo sie die aktuellen Mitglieder Volker Zacharias und Axel Ermes hinzufügten.
Nach mehreren Jahren anderer Dinge reformierte sich The Cassandra Complex, um einige gut aufgenommene europäische Festivalshows zu spielen, und begann mit der Arbeit an ihrem neuen Album The Plague, das während des Covid-19-Lockdowns aufgenommen und gemischt wurde. Das Album wird am 6. Mai 2022 auf ihrem eigenen Label Complex Music veröffentlicht.

The Plague is not only the new album from The Cassandra Complex, it's also their first since their last work, Wetware, released in 2000 - and it's being released just in time for the 40th anniversary of this band, originally founded in Leeds in 1982 by mastermind Rodney Orpheus.
The Cassandra Complex couldn't really be pigeonholed from the start: on the one hand they were influenced by Anglo-American colleagues like Suicide, The Velvet Underground or New Order - on the other hand they were open to continental trends that came from the German electro pioneers or bands like DAF.
All this, combined with a move to Germany in 1987, quickly brought The Cassandra Complex a great reputation in various scenes from Gothic to EBM.
The albums Grenade (1986) and Theomania (1988) became classics, as did songs like Moscow Idaho, Kill Your Children or (In Search Of) Penny Century.
Their perfect crossover of dynamic guitar and repetitive electronics was a band trademark, as was the exalted, charismatic presence of frontman Rodney Orpheus.
Since then, The Cassandra Complex quieted down a bit in recent years, which makes the band return with The Plague all the more significant.
Recorded during the pandemic, in which the musicians were sometimes only able to play with each other virtually, The Plague has turned out to be an well-rounded and authentically powerful album by The Cassandra Complex, whose long development process is illustrated by the single The Crown Lies Heavy On The King, which documented in October 2020 the possible re-election of Donald Trump, which was still threatening at the time.
Like previous classics from The Cassandra Complex, this album is characterized by electronic elements in a dialogue with the two long-time guitarists Andy Booth (from Manchester, UK) and Volker Zacharias (Hamburg, Germany).
And The Plague undoubtedly has what it takes to become a classic: here tradition and lovingly and knowledgeably integrated influences (like from Joy Division in Speed Of Sound) are combined with the power and sheer dynamics of the old days, giving us Old Boys Network - a new anthem in the style of Moscow Idaho.
Despite all the familiarity, The Plague is not a nostalgic retro album, the topics alone are too relevant for that and the anger and joy of playing are unbroken.
And of course the introspective ballads, that are mainly gathered on the second half of The Plague, are not missing either: The Best Thing and Miss You are unsentimental, profound declarations of love in the best sense, and a track like The Great Sea underscores the great gothic elegance this band has always been capable of.
The Plague is far more than a comeback that we were due, but already a classic in the band's history, which was already not lacking in great highlights!
The Plague ist nicht nur das neue Album von The Cassandra Complex, es ist auch ihr erstes seit ihrem letzten Werk, Wetware, das im Jahr 2000 veröffentlicht wurde - und es wird gerade rechtzeitig zum 40-jährigen Jubiläum dieser Band veröffentlicht, die ursprünglich 1982 von Mastermind Rodney Orpheus in Leeds gegründet wurde.
Der Cassandra-Komplex konnte von Anfang an nicht wirklich in die Schublade gesteckt werden: Einerseits wurden sie von angloamerikanischen Kollegen wie Suicide, The Velvet Underground oder New Order beeinflusst - andererseits waren sie offen für kontinentale Trends, die von den deutschen Elektropionieren oder Bands wie DAF kamen.

Trotz aller Vertrautheit ist The Plague kein nostalgisches Retro-Album, die Themen allein sind dafür zu relevant und die Wut und Freude am Spielen sind ungebrochen.
Und natürlich fehlen auch die introspektiven Balladen, die hauptsächlich in der zweiten Hälfte von The Plague gesammelt werden: The Best Thing und Miss You sind unsentimentale, tiefe Liebeserklärungen im besten Sinne, und ein Track wie The Great Sea unterstreicht die große gotische Eleganz, zu der diese Band schon immer in der Lage war.
The Plague ist weit mehr als ein Comeback, das uns zu bieten hatte, aber bereits ein Klassiker in der Geschichte der Band, dem bereits keine großartigen Highlights fehlten!
