Vice Squad – Beki: Hello
Vice Squad – Beki: I thought it up when I was at school, I thought the āViceā part was a bit risquĆ© and the āSquadā part suggested an army of Punks.
Vice Squad – Beki: Juvenile idiocy and the desire to make some noise.
Vice Squad – Beki: The old recordings sound youthfully inept but quite uniquebecause we couldnāt play and sing properly. The band I toured with from the nineties onwards was faster, louder and more powerful, which is true of lots of other bands like Discharge and The Exploited too.
Vice Squad – Beki: Injustice, the pure joy of Rock ānā Roll, Defiance, Endurance.
Vice Squad – Beki: The same as above, but also a desire to touch a nerve and clear my head. Itās satisfying to attack things I feel are wrong, especially things that I have little chance of changing.
Vice Squad – Beki: Ā It usually involves Paul (lead guitar) coming up with a riff and me writing some lyrics and a vocal melody and several arguments. He often thinks that what I think is the chorus is the verse and vice versa. All the stuff I wrote about from the safety of my bedroom in my parent’s house in the eighties has got even worse now so thereās plenty to write about. Once I left home and moved to London my writing came from a place of stark reality rather than safety so itās more sincere than when I was writing from imagination.
Vice Squad – Beki: tās extremely important, I rarely sing light weight lyrics.
Vice Squad – Beki: Ā I didnāt think about the following week let alone the long term future when I was a kid. I always wanted to sing and Iāve never embraced the āNormalā life. The longer you do something the better you become , so you have to keep going.
Vice Squad – Beki: Experience means that gigs can both annoy me and enthral me a lot more than they did when I first started. A good stage with a great sound and an eager crowd is a joyful thing but a badly organised gig with a disinterested sound engineer and lazy promoter is best avoided. Iāve played toilets and stadiums, bigger isnāt necessarily better, itās all about vibe and enthusiasm.
Vice Squad – Beki: No plans to tour right now
Vice Squad – Beki: Yes: Wait.

We all look forward to more great music from the band very soon.

Can you help us?
Here at Darker Side of Music, we aim to bring Artists to more people giving them as much exposure as possible. We also are independent and are in no way supported by any Label.
Artists today have struggled to keep their art going for a long time, especially in the genres that we love and try to help. We are also in the same boat. We fight to survive if you use our site in any way and feel you can help us with the high running costs. Please think about supporting us so we can continue to help those artists that give us incredible enjoyment from what they create.
We all have something in common our love of music.
