INTERVIEW WITH
GLYTSH
Mike: Welcome, GYLTSH. I am Mike from Darker Side Of Music Would you like to introduce yourselves?
Glytsh: We are Glytsh, a metal duo based in London (UK)
Mike: Can you tell us a little about the name GLYTSH?
Glytsh: Glytsh is “glitch”, just with another spelling. The musical meaning is the transition between music genres in our songs that we like to do a lot. Symbolically, it represents the constant and abrupt changes in the world, which can go from very peaceful and beautiful to complete chaos in a second.
Mike: How did you both meet and decide to create GLYTSH?
Glytsh: We met in London in a rock cover band in early 2021. Hella (guitar player) was already in the band, and Luna joined when we needed a new singer. Although we had both been living in London since 2014 and had many common friends, we had never met before! We quickly realised we had a similar vision, and both of us had left our respective original bands at the time. We started brainstorming and writing in late 2021.
Mike: What is the creative process like, and what influences your music and Lyrics?
Glytsh: Luna would typically come up with a beat/electronic-based idea and some vocals, then Hella would add guitar and build the rest of the song. We then send the song to our drummer, Rosalvo Melo, who will embellish the groove! The lyrics are influenced by our life experiences, like most artists 😉
Mike: “SAVAGE” is a fantastic track and a great video. Can you tell us about it and the great location?
Glytsh: Thank you! It was filmed in a very cool spot in London, just underneath Waterloo station. We had to start filming at 5 am to avoid the crowd, as we were shooting with a GoPro 360 that would literally capture everything and anyone walking around. The track has a more industrial vibe and talks about the frustration of navigating life as a woman and being called too “hysterical” and “emotional” when standing up for herself.
Mike: In this time of so many genres and subgenres in music, where does GLYTSH fit in all this?
Glytsh: We have been described as an industrial metal, alt-rock, electronic, rock-rap, nu-metal… We love incorporating many different genres into our music.
Mike: Is there an album or tour planned?
Glytsh: We’re in the middle of a fundraising campaign to record our next EP in 2023. We’re already at 50% of our target, which we are very happy about! We will also start playing live in 2023, with details TBC!
Mike: Where do you want to see GLYTSH in 5 years?
Glytsh: Constantly touring and releasing music. That’s all we wanna do!
Mike: Do you have any plans for collaborations, and who, if any, would you like to collaborate with?
Glytsh: Not for now, but we have ideas in mind! It would be great to collaborate with a rapper on a track.
Mike: Is there anything you can tell us that is not known as yet about GLYTSH?
Glytsh: We are actually robots and don’t live on earth.
Mike: Thank you, GLYTSH, for taking part and for the great answers.
