INTERVIEW WITH
CHRIS POHL
(SHE HATES EMOTIONS)
Chris Pohl: Well I am in the music business since 1995. My main project is BLUTENGEL but I wanted to create a project, that goes more into the Synth / Pop / 80ies direction. I am a child of the 80ies and love music. So I created SHE. This is, as well as Blutengel, just a solo project. For upcoming Live gigs, I will have some Keys and maybe synth drums, but no one who will ever play is a part of the project 😉
Chris Pohl: I don´t read many books so LIFE is my biggest inspiration. Most of the lyrics are autobiographical. I write about my fears, wishes, my past and everything that interests me… Sometimes I try to tell some small stories… But these are all things I experienced myself or heard from friends….
Chris Pohl: When I met my girlfriend the first time she told me that she is a woman who hates any kind of emotions…. I was so shocked by these words and I thought that she has so many emotions but she tried to refuse it. But as her boyfriend, I looked behind her mask and she is sooo emotional… But years later, I thought about her words, and so SHE HATES EMOTIONS was born 😉
Chris Pohl: You said it. I HAD so many projects. Each had its place for me in its time. Whenever something is important to me, I take great care of it. Many projects no longer exist because they are finished for me in my soul. I love music and I don’t want to go in just one direction. BE has become very bombastic and organic because we also work with acoustic instruments. And SHE is minimalist SYNTH Pop. I currently like both styles.
Chris Pohl: Of course. It is. In my past I went to many parties… Had lots of experience with girls, alkohol, parties BUT never with Drugs!!! I was always searching for something I never found. I got all the other things but not THIS. And in the end I realized, that all this was not good for me because I was only searching for real love. Romantic, isn´t it? 😉
Chris Pohl: The second album is probably the most difficult thing. You want to carry on with the style you created but you don´t want to copy the first album. So I tried to manifest my style but also tried something different. But in the end I think, it sounds like SHE and that´s what I wanted to create. You should listen to a song – From the first or the current album – and you should say: “Ah – This is SHE” ANd of course this album is NOT really happy when you listen to the lyrics 🙂
Chris Pohl: Hahaha… I am sorry for that but this is genetic^^ I have no style. I am 50 and my style is to be myself. As I child I never smiled and it´s the same today.. It´s not that I don´t want to but sometimes I think I smile and than look at the picture and I look like grumpy cat^^ Am I happy? No! Not in this life, not in this world. But I feel good and I am ok…. To be happy the world has to restart and someone has to think about the role of mankind. SO all I can do is to fell good and satisfied… BUT – As I said – NOT happy 😉
Chris Pohl: Uuuuuh, I could name so many… Maybe Alphaville, Visage, Yazoo, Tears for Fears, Human League…. Nearly every band from the 80ies was good 🙂
Chris Pohl: Like I said before – At the moment there are only two projects. And because they ARE so different it´s so Easy to choose for which project I start to write songs. See, my life is Blutnegel…. My love, my hope – Everything. I write so many songs for BE… But when I work on SHE I exactly know, what I want to reach or in which direction I want to go… I just open One, maybe two Synth and play. No Orchestra, No Guitars, no modern effects or loops… So it´s really easy for me. Same was with former projects like Terminal Choice. We have been a band and wrote songs together. With drums and guitars….I can really good differentiate…
Chris Pohl: Go back to the time when I did not have so many possibilities… Try to feel like in the 80ies when I started to make music… Create a 80ies influenced Style with no borders. Not dark but dark enough, not pop, but “pop” enough… As I said: BE is more modern, epic, dark… I wanted to create a project where I could start new…. that was SHE
Chris Pohl: We hope that we can go on a small tour in january… Maybe some concerts. Even to build a live setup will be hard. All people knpw me from BE but now it´s not BE^^ I spend the next weeks with thinking about a concept 🙂
Chris Pohl: No! There where some great questions. Was fun to answer. All I would like to say is that I hope that, due to all the bad years in the past and even the bad times now, music will never die! Today it´s hard to be a musican. So try to support your band, Buy tickets in advance and go to concerts as long as your band exists… Hard times will come – Sorry for being that pesimistic but it´s true. And until the world falls down: Listen to SHE^^ Thank you 🙂
