Special Duties were formed in October 1977 by Steve Green (Aka Arrogant), Steve Norris (Aka Duty) and Nigel Baker. Hailing from Colchester, Essex, the first wave of British and American Punk bands such as Sex Pistols, Ramones, The Adverts and The Boys inspired the band. The ever-controversial Special Duties inked a record deal with Charnel House Records in 1980 and released their first single, “Violent Society”. The band then moved to Rondelet Records soon after and recruited drummer Stuart Bray. Their second EP for the label, "Police State", spent two months in the indie chart, prompting Rondelet to get the band into the studio to record their debut album, 77 in 82.
In 1982 the band released their debut album, "77 in 82”. The album is considered a staple in any UK 82 Punk Collection and was reissued in 1995 on Mark Brennan of The Business’s label Captain Oi! Records to capitalise on the growing interest in the bands growing popularity. Two years later, in 1997, Special Duties would release their 2nd full-length album titled “77’ in 97”, and a massive interest in the band led to major billings on major punk festivals such as Holidays in the Sun and the Fuck Reading Festival. Special Duties would also travel to the United States and play the famous CBGB in 1998, and the recordings would be released as a live album.
2021’s “Seven Days A Week” was released on Violated Records in Lp and Cd format and digital format. Special Duties have returned to their early form of the Rondelet Days to produce their finest album yet. A mix of old and new punk from the band that has the spirit of 1977 in its veins.
With ¾’s of the classic lineup back, Steve Duty on Vocals, Bart Povah on Guitar, Stuart Bray on Drums and newest member Dave Sadler on bass, provide an album that will surely be cherished from start to finish.
“Seven Days A Week” is Special Duties strongest material to date and their first new recordings since 2002’s track “Apathy In The U.K.”, which was featured on Captain Oi’s “Addicted To Oi!” compilation album. “Seven Days A Week” features soon-to-be classics from the band in “Out of Control”, “Timebomb”, and “Billy Jones”. We at Violated Records are proud to release since soon to be a punk classic.
