Bebawinigi is magical. The songs are melodic, organised, chaotic, crazy, and energised with personal spirit and emotion.
This album is full of creativity that is off the scale of what can be classed as expected, as every song is created in a way that has its uniqueness.
I love this type of creativity. There is no mould; there is no pattern. It is all unique.
A WILD TRIP
‘Stupor’ is the second chapter of the ambitious experimental project by singer, multi-instrumentalist, composer and actress, Bebawinigi. A juicy, dangerous and unexpected double LP resulting from years of live experience across the most avant-garde venues in Europe.
It became the crucial factor shaping the sound of the newest album of Bebawinigi. While avid usage of loops and dissonance sounds on her shows, leads to the creation of what the singer herself describes as “obsessive songs”, comparing them to magic formulas and Medieval rituals. Virginia explains: “Most of 'Stupor' was born from this! The idea of creating something new, fresh, something that takes the music forward and does not stagnate in a defined and crystallized genre”.
Bebawinigi ( born Virginia Quaranta ) is a multi-instrumentalist, singer, actress, and composer often described as “Italian Diamanda Galas”. The name ‘Bebawinigi’, according to the artist, represents the graceless, grotesque, disturbing and inherently flawed creature that lies in each one of us, which we try to get rid of when we become adults, but it will always be part of us.
Bebawinigi isn’t a different person outside of her music activities. Virginia Quaranta isn't always calm and focused. But just like her alter-ego reminds a constantly morphing symbiosis of angel and devil. “Since childhood I have been used to singing in choirs this has greatly influenced my way of composing” – following the words of the woman behind Bebawinigi, that was the start of her path of exploring registers, timbres and colors “As if there were so many different creatures in me in one body. It's a long, lifelong process that comes naturally to me”.
“It means wonder, surprise, astonishment and at the same time means the state in which you are unable to think and act normally because you are too drunk or high or sick” – explains Virginia, referring to the linguistic ambivalence between Latin and English. A long gestation of an instinct, immediacy, study and research alongside the mental journey lead Bebawinigi all through the process of creation of her new album. A journey through many different places linked by a single enchanted thread that is ‘Stupor’.
"Stupor" ist das zweite Kapitel des ehrgeizigen Experimentalprojekts der Sängerin, Multiinstrumentalistin, Komponistin und Schauspielerin Bebawinigi. Eine saftige, gefährliche und unerwartete Doppel-LP, die aus jahrelanger Live-Erfahrung an den avantgardistischsten Veranstaltungsorten Europas resultiert.
Es wurde zum entscheidenden Faktor, der den Klang des neuesten Albums von Bebawinigi prägte. Während die eifrige Verwendung von Loops und Dissonanzklängen in ihren Shows zur Schaffung dessen führt, was die Sängerin selbst als "obsessive Lieder" beschreibt, und vergleicht sie mit magischen Formeln und mittelalterlichen Ritualen. Virginia erklärt: "Der größte Teil von 'Stupor' wurde daraus geboren! Die Idee, etwas Neues, Frisches zu schaffen, etwas, das die Musik voranbringt und in einem definierten und kristallisierten Genre nicht stagniert".

Der Name "Bebawinigi" stellt laut dem Künstler die gnadenlose, groteske, verstörende und von Natur aus fehlerhafte Kreatur dar, die in jedem von uns liegt, die wir loswerden wollen, wenn wir erwachsen werden, aber sie wird immer ein Teil von uns sein.
Bebawinigi ist keine andere Person außerhalb ihrer Musikaktivitäten. Virginia Quaranta ist nicht immer ruhig und konzentriert. Aber genau wie ihr Alter Ego an eine sich ständig verändernde Symbiose von Engel und Teufel erinnert. "Seit meiner Kindheit bin ich es gewohnt, in Chören zu singen, das hat meine Art des Komponierens stark beeinflusst" - nach den Worten der Frau hinter Bebawinigi, das war der Beginn ihres Weges, Register, Klangfarben und Farben zu erforschen "Als ob es so viele verschiedene Kreaturen in mir in einem Körper gäbe. Es ist ein langer, lebenslanger Prozess, der für mich selbstverständlich ist".
"Es bedeutet Staunen, Überraschung, Erstaunen und bedeutet gleichzeitig den Zustand, in dem man nicht in der Lage ist, normal zu denken und zu handeln, weil man zu betrunken oder zu hoch oder krank ist", erklärt Virginia und bezieht sich auf die sprachliche Ambivalenz zwischen Latein und Englisch. Eine lange Trächtigkeit eines Instinkts, Unmittelbarkeit, Studium und Forschung neben der mentalen Reise führte Bebawinigi durch den Entstehungsprozess ihres neuen Albums. Eine Reise durch viele verschiedene Orte, die durch einen einzigen verzauberten Faden verbunden sind, der "Stupor" ist.
'Stupor' è il secondo capitolo dell'ambizioso progetto sperimentale del cantante, polistrumentista, compositore e attrice Bebawinigi. Un doppio LP succoso, pericoloso e inaspettato derivante da anni di esperienza dal vivo nei luoghi più all'avanguardia d'Europa.
È diventato il fattore cruciale che ha plasmato il suono del nuovo album di Bebawinigi. Mentre l'avido uso di loop e suoni di dissonanza nei suoi spettacoli, porta alla creazione di quelle che la stessa cantante descrive come "canzoni ossessive", confrontandole con formule magiche e rituali medievali. Virginia spiega: “La maggior parte dello 'Stupor' è nata da questo! L'idea di creare qualcosa di nuovo, fresco, qualcosa che porti avanti la musica e non ristagni in un genere definito e cristallizzato”.

Bebawinigi non è una persona diversa al di fuori delle sue attività musicali. Virginia Quaranta non è sempre calma e concentrata. Ma proprio come il suo alter-ego ricorda una simbiosi costantemente trasformante di angelo e diavolo. "Fin dall'infanzia sono abituato a cantare nei cori, questo ha influenzato notevolmente il mio modo di comporre" - seguendo le parole della donna dietro Bebawinigi, quello è stato l'inizio del suo percorso di esplorazione di registri, timbri e colori "Come se ci fossero così tante creature diverse in me in un solo corpo. È un processo lungo e permanente che mi viene naturale”.
"Significa meraviglia, sorpresa, stupore e allo stesso tempo significa lo stato in cui non sei in grado di pensare e agire normalmente perché sei troppo ubriaco o alto o malato" - spiega Virginia, riferendosi all'ambivalenza linguistica tra latino e inglese. Una lunga gestazione di istinto, immediatezza, studio e ricerca insieme al viaggio mentale porta Bebawinigi attraverso il processo di creazione del suo nuovo album. Un viaggio attraverso molti luoghi diversi collegati da un singolo filo incantato che è 'Stupor'.
