Robots In Love – Activate (Album) – (Release/Review)
Rating:
Released: 23 May 2025
Since I first heard Robots In Love I was kind of hooked on the sound and the vocals. The music and vocals remind me so much of a great band called Indians In Moscow that I loved back in the 80's. Do not be fooled by my words there as this is not an 80's wannabe this is a very modern and sleek debut album.
The band are certainly showcasing here their soundtrack like intro and e[ic sound that they can create with vocals that are both clear and melodic.
It is easy to listen to the amazing lyrics on this album to with each track bringing something great to the album itself.
It is always exciting when a band releases a debut album and this album 'Activate!' is one hell of a release and the band must be so proud of it.
This is an album that can be enjoyed by so many as although its dark electro it can be seriously enjoyed across many genres as it has so much appeal.
My stand out track on this album is going to be difficult as they are all grateful tracks and it would be unfair to pick one as the work gone into create this album must have been immense so on this album there is no clear winner so I will abstain from an opinion and let you decide for yourselves.
Please give this album a listen it deserves a chance by everyone as its really a great album and is outstanding as a debut.
Robots In Love you did outstanding with this debut, well done.
About
New Zealand dark electro band, ROBOTS IN LOVE smash the wall between rock and electronic music with debut album, Activate! With this new album, ROBOTS IN LOVE transforms uninhibited, naked emotion into a powerful, unforgettable sonic experience.
Some of the songs on Activate! take a “dystopian” perspective; “Break The Code” and “The Sequel” for example. Others like “Entwine” address both desire and anticipation. The album ends with “Fire Heals”, a devastatingly beautiful story of loss, wrapped in a stunning symphonic arrangement that will leave you craving more.
However, the most consistent and important theme of the album is perhaps that of “breaking free of the darkness”. Vocalist, Elenor says, "It's my advice to people to venture into the darkness but not to stay there. For example, in "Wolves Cry" the lyrics are: "hear the danger and run from night, love is stronger into light".
Musical inspiration for the album comes from the creative collision between vocalist / producer Elenor Rayner and drummer / producer Alex Burchell. Elenor says, “For an album that's so precise and meticulously produced, it developed organically, and I think that's what makes it work so well. There are no distinct influences on our music, the songs take their own shape as we work on them together.”
Two years in the making, Activate! creates a cinematic journey, demolishing genre boundaries and creating a sound that's uniquely their own.
