REVIEW:
I have been lucky enough to receive an early listen to the debut full-length album by Nova Riot, Blood, Lies & Lullabies, and what an awesome album it is.
It features a powerful blend of musical melodies, screeching guitars, and powerful female vocals. But don’t be fooled—this is not just another band; this is an amazing, unique blend of music.
I’m hearing elements of The Birthday Massacre and most definitely Linkin Park, so fans of both these bands should absolutely not miss this release. It is most definitely an awesome album that needs to be listened to, and definitely not at a low volume.
Please do not mistake my comparisons; this band are not wannabes. They are brilliant in their own right, with a style of their own and just a few clear influences. Their ability to balance power is excellent, and the album is carefully mastered to hit the right spots throughout each song.
The track “The Altar (feat. The Bunny The Bear)” is such a fantastic song, with emotions rivalling many of the best artists and bands out there. It even features growling vocals in the background to prove the sheer versatility of this band. Hearing them for the first time is so exciting, as the way they have blended varying styles throughout the record is incredible.
This is one of the best debut albums I’ve heard in a long time. You would believe they are a very established band with a long history. Described as “Bubblegum Alternative Metal,” they are actually far more than that—Nova Riot are going to be a powerhouse of the alternative metal genres. They can definitely hold their own against much more established bands.
“Through The Storm” is a track you expect to jump out at you as a metal song with balls, and it does not disappoint. With massive guitar riffs and powerful choruses, this is so damn good.
The final track on the album is called “Sorry Mom.” It starts as a softer, far more gentle track—almost spoken word with full-blown emotion—then it crescendos into a beautiful song that will blow your mind. Lyrically, it’s such an incredible, no-holds-barred message, and wow, does it deliver? Of course it does. It lands so damn well.
Overall, this debut album from Nova Riot is an absolute gem. I highly recommend pre-ordering this and adding it to your collection if you like any sort of rock, metal, or alternative music. Even if you are not a fan of these styles, still give it a listen; it may grab you and surprise you in so many ways.
This is such an awesome debut, set to rock you.
RELEASE DETAILS:
The heavy music landscape often feels like a choice between two extremes: the jagged, unpolished chaos of the underground or the sanitized, predictable shine of the mainstream. Every so often, a band emerges that refuses to acknowledge the boundary at all. NOVA RIOT, a trio operating out of Durant, Oklahoma, is that disruption. With their upcoming debut album, Blood, Lies & Lullabies, they have officially planted their flag in a territory they call bubblegum alternative metal. It is a high-octane collision of grit and melody that feels both dangerously volatile and impeccably crafted.
