Cygnus A is a sci-fi / celestial-themed rock band from Cape Town, South Africa. The CONTACT EP was recorded just before lockdown hit Cape Town. All the raw tracks were then mixed and mastered primarily remotely between Naweed (vocals, songwriting, and guitar) and Duri (bass, guitar fills) who are also the producers of the EP. Naweed and Duri formed the label/collective called Strange Machinery as a central hub to create and distribute their music projects, of which CONTACT is the first release. New material from Cygnus A as well as other Strange Machinery projects is currently in development.
The name CONTACT has a double meaning: it is a reference to the work of Carl Sagan, whose work is a thematic influence of the band and also signifies the first 'contact' with our listeners since this is a debut release. The album was both performed and produced to paint a specific sonic landscape according to the band's vision. Now that the lockdown in Cape Town has subsided, the band is also commencing rehearsals in order to resume gigs.
Cygnus A ist eine Sci-Fi / Celestial-Rockband aus Kapstadt, Südafrika. Die CONTACT EP wurde kurz vor dem Lockdown Kapstadt aufgenommen. Alle Rohspuren wurden dann hauptsächlich aus der Ferne zwischen Naweed (Gesang, Songwriting und Gitarre) und Duri (Bass, Gitarrenfüllungen), die auch die Produzenten der EP sind, gemischt und gemastert. Naweed und Duri gründeten das Label/Kollektiv Strange Machinery als zentrale Drehscheibe, um ihre Musikprojekte zu erstellen und zu vertreiben, von denen CONTACT die erste Veröffentlichung ist. Neues Material von Cygnus A sowie anderen Strange Machinery-Projekten befindet sich derzeit in der Entwicklung.
Der Name CONTACT hat eine doppelte Bedeutung: Er bezieht sich auf die Arbeit von Carl Sagan, dessen Arbeit ein thematischer Einfluss der Band ist und auch den ersten "Kontakt" mit unseren Zuhörern bedeutet, da dies eine Debütveröffentlichung ist. Das Album wurde sowohl aufgeführt als auch produziert, um eine bestimmte Klanglandschaft nach der Vision der Band zu malen. Jetzt, da der Lockdown in Kapstadt nachgelassen hat, beginnt die Band auch mit den Proben, um die Auftritte wieder aufzunehmen.
